keriSuddenly, Keri Christian (27 – and over eight-months-pregnant) and her husband Anthony Marotto (41), along with their 2-year old daughter, Serafina, found themselves out in the street – Since the storm forced them out of their Staten Island home, they had been staying at the Nu Hotel in Brooklyn. An article in the NY Post articulated the struggles that families face when FEMA does not adjust hotel vouchers thereby causing these families to find overnight arrangements on a moment’s notice. When the NY Post ran a feature on the family and their housing situation our organization sprung into action moving quickly to provide relief to the family.
Keri and Anthony had moved to Staten Island in July. Their home was flooded during Hurricane Sandy but her husband began working effortlessly to fix their rental home with the homeowner. Just as they were able to get new sheetrock on the walls, a fire charred the home. Her husband was burned in the fire but continues to help in the cleanup/rebuild efforts. They have now found a rental in Brooklyn and are due to move in on December 15th. They have lost everything and their son is due to be born on January 15th. Keri has been hospitalized twice since Sandy. It is extremely important that we help to settle this family before the arrival of their baby boy!
